The Australian Highlands Wine Awards
Wine with altitude
After a challenging couple of years, due to the global pandemic and the devastating bushfires that affected many of Australia’s wine regions, we’re thrilled to announce that the Australian Highlands Wine Awards are back for 2021.
This is Australia’s only event that judges all the best wines from around the country that come from high altitude wine regions. Major areas include the Southern Highlands, Orange, Mudgee, New England, Tumbarumbra, Hilltops, Canberra District and Adelaide Hills.
The wines compete for the prestigious title of Australia’s Best Wine with Altitude.
So what does “highlands” and “high altitude” actually mean?
Anything above 500 meters in altitude! So the Australian Highlands Wine Awards are open to all Australian wines made from grapes that are sourced from vineyards above 500 metres.
This year, we had some fantastic judges who used every last drop of their expertise to critique the entrants. Judging took place over two days – 2 & 3 November 2021.
The winners were announced at a prestigious awards presentation evening held at Centennial Vineyards on Thursday 2 December 2021. Out of the 88 medals awarded, an impressive 41 medals were won by local wines.
